The bassist Paul Gray has been found dead in a hotel in Iowa, aged just 38.
Reports say his body was found by an employee from the hotel. Police have said foul play is not suspected in the death, however a full autopsy will take place this week.
Gray had been in the masked band since 1995 when they first formed in Des Moines.
He was better known as #2 (or "The Pig") and worked on all four of Slipknot’s albums.
The group’s label has confirmed the news but no further comment has been issued by them or the other members of the band.

Red Dead Redemption is the upcoming sandbox-style western video game developed by Rockstar San Diego.
